Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said his country is ready to host Lebanese-Israeli negotiations that could bring lasting peace to Lebanon.

Cyprus is prepared to host Lebanese-Israeli negotiations that could secure lasting peace for a Lebanon that has endured extensive warfare on its soil, President Nikos Christodoulides declared. The statement came during a meeting at the presidential palace in Nicosia with a delegation of Maronites from Lebanon and Cyprus, led by MP Yanakis Moussa and including George Chahwan and Maroun Charabati, who presented him with a cedar wood shield.
Christodoulides welcomed the visiting delegation, emphasizing the strength of Lebanese-Cypriot ties across geographic, historical, economic, social, and humanitarian dimensions. These bonds, he noted, have been reinforced under the tenure of President Joseph Aoun, with whom he shares a longstanding and solid friendship. The Cypriot leader stressed his country’s commitment to Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty, and its ongoing efforts to achieve permanent peace there.
The Cypriot president also confirmed work is underway to ease tourist visa procedures for Lebanese wishing to travel to Cyprus. Concluding the meeting, he highlighted the significance of the Maronite presence in Cyprus and the active role the Maronite community plays within the Cypriot social fabric. “I will strive diligently to assist the Maronite towns in Cyprus,” he stated.
In response, Chahwan and Charabati thanked Christodoulides for his support of Lebanon and Lebanese investors in Cyprus. They affirmed that Lebanon’s Maronites take pride in the strong relations with the neighboring European state.
