The Syrian General Authority for Borders and Customs announced the foiling of an attempt to smuggle a quantity of narcotic substances through the Qmar Bridge border crossing with Lebanon, during routine inspections of luggage belonging to travelers arriving via the checkpoint.

The authority clarified that the inspection resulted in the seizure of 2600 grams of hashish and 17 grams of heroin, which were tightly concealed inside a loudspeaker in an attempt to disguise them and bypass customs inspection procedures.

It added that a customs report was drawn up and the necessary legal measures were taken, confirming the continuation of efforts to combat the smuggling of narcotics and prohibited items and to tighten surveillance on border crossings.

The Qmar Bridge crossing is located in the Wadi Khaled area of Akkar in northern Lebanon. It is the only open border crossing in northern Lebanon with Syria, dedicated exclusively to pedestrian traffic.
