General Security Directorate Warns Against Spreading False Information About Passports

Issued by the Media Affairs Office of the General Security Directorate:

"Some media outlets and social media platforms are circulating misleading information about the issuance of several forged passports.

The General Security Directorate, having previously issued multiple statements and clarifications on this matter, reiterates that these claims are entirely unfounded and lack any basis in fact or verifiable evidence.

As previously reported, the Directorate initiated several investigations under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, which revealed that passports were issued based on incorrect data. These investigations led to the arrest of all individuals found involved, with appropriate legal actions taken; they continue to serve their sentences as of today. Since then, the Directorate has continued its investigations and audits in this file under the oversight of the Public Prosecution, and to date no irregular passport has been identified as issued by it.

In light of the persistent dissemination and repetition of these claims despite repeated denials and clarifications, the General Security Directorate appeals to media outlets and social media users to exercise the utmost accuracy and responsibility, verifying the authenticity and sources of information. It emphasizes that continuing to disseminate fabricated information without verification constitutes suspicious intent, particularly aimed at undermining the reputation of the Lebanese passport abroad.

The Directorate also affirms that it will not tolerate any entity or individual promoting or spreading false or misleading news that damages its credibility or casts doubt on the authenticity of Lebanese travel documents issued by it. It will take all necessary legal measures against violators and pursue anyone proven to have disseminated or promoted these false claims under the supervision of the competent judiciary."
