Internal Recommendations Issued for Road Safety

Following up on the National Road Safety Committee meeting held on 24-8-2026, and in pursuit of public safety, Interior Minister and Municipalities Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar issued the committee's recommendations to be followed up with concerned parties, addressed to the following:

1- General Directorate of Internal Security Forces:

* ⁠Continue and strengthen enforcement actions regarding violations related to motorized bicycles.

* ⁠Strengthen enforcement of traffic violations that pose an immediate threat to road users’ safety, particularly performing stunts while riding motorized bicycles or dangerous maneuvers while driving vehicles, excessive speeding, risky overtaking, driving against traffic flow, overloading, and non-compliance with size regulations.

- Emphasize the importance of wearing seatbelts and refraining from using mobile phones while driving.

- ⁠Increase the use of speed radar systems, especially on international and main roads recording high accident rates, based on accident statistics.

- ⁠Enhance roadside monitoring to verify drivers possess all required documents, such as driver’s licenses and vehicle registration, annual road tax receipt, and mandatory insurance contract covering bodily and material damages.

- ⁠Strengthen measures against begging, particularly on public roads.

2- Governors:

* Give due importance to road safety issues, oversee provincial affairs in this domain, and take necessary actions and measures to enhance road safety and reduce risk sources on roads.

* Circulate instructions to municipalities and municipal unions to reinforce road safety measures and take necessary steps to remove vegetable stalls set up on international and main roads, which pose significant risks to road safety.

3- Ministry of Public Works and Transport:

Include road safety requirements in all road projects implemented by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, encompassing road planning, installation of traffic signs and signals, implementation of road surface markings, construction of pedestrian crossings, and other necessary measures and equipment to enhance road safety.

4- Ministry of Higher Education and Education:

Recommend strengthening road safety culture among younger generations by incorporating road safety concepts and principles into established school curricula and organizing awareness campaigns in institutes and universities on this matter.
