Is There Really a Military Facility and Tunnels Beneath Baalbek Castle?

Confirmed by Baalbek-Hermel Governor Bechara Khoury that there are no tunnels beneath Baalbek Castle as reported in the media, he told MTV: "Baalbek Castle is under the protection and security of Lebanese security forces, and we regret the reports claiming tunnels exist beneath it; we also regret that some people have taken pleasure in this news, thereby endangering Lebanon's largest archaeological site." He also stated: "A thorough inspection of Baalbek Castle was previously conducted, and we confirmed beyond doubt that it is free of weapons, and there is no justification for putting it at risk."

"There are Roman tunnels in Baalbek, which are open to tourists," he added, emphasizing there are no military facilities or any other installations within the city, not just beneath the castle, and urged the Lebanese Army to investigate Israeli claims to eliminate all doubt."
