Lebanon
Lebanese Parliament passed the law abolishing the death penalty, marking a significant humanitarian and civilizational milestone. The initiative, first introduced in 2012, has seen sustained efforts by lawmakers to advance it.

Issued by the leader of the Lebanese Forces party, Suleiman Frangieh:
The Parliament passed yesterday the law abolishing the death penalty, a very important step, both on the humanitarian level and regarding the view of the civilized world toward Lebanon.
It should be noted that we had previously submitted this bill in February 2012 through former MP Eli Kiroz, and subsequently successive members of the Strong Republic bloc have continued working on it and striving to move it forward, particularly in recent times, when the Committee on Administration and Justice focused on finalizing all its details and sending it to the full assembly.
Bravo to the Lebanese people for this law, as it is a fundamental step toward Lebanon’s civilization, light, and radiance that we have long dreamed of.
While strongly hoping that the amnesty law, which has faced many obstacles, will pass, we remain determined to continue supporting and endorsing it until its enactment.
