Lebanese Army to Launch Pilot Deployment in Two South Lebanon Areas

The Jerusalem Post reported, citing two informed sources, that a pilot initiative is set to begin soon involving the deployment of Lebanese Army units into specific areas in southern Lebanon to confirm these zones are free of Hezbollah personnel and arms.

This development follows a meeting held last week in Rome between Israeli and Lebanese delegations. The Israeli delegation was led by Ambassador Yehiel Leiter, Israel's envoy to the United States, while the Lebanese side was headed by Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Mouawad. Senior officials from the U.S. administration oversaw the discussions.

According to an Israeli official quoted by the newspaper, the talks concluded with an agreement on two designated areas for the pilot phase. The official described the discussions as "constructive," noting they strengthened mutual understanding between Israel and Lebanon regarding the necessity of disarming Hezbollah.

The official further explained that the pilot zones will serve as a test of Lebanon's practical exercise of sovereignty by implementing the agreed-upon conditions through the Lebanese Army, with oversight from the United States.
