Lebanese President Joseph Aoun issued a statement expressing his attention to the recently announced memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. He noted that the agreement includes a commitment to halt military actions and de-escalate tensions in the region, including Lebanon.

In this regard, the president valued the memorandum’s recognition of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the acknowledgment that Lebanon’s stability and security are integral to any serious effort to establish regional stability. He highlighted the significant sacrifices and burdens borne by the Lebanese people in recent times.

President Aoun emphasized that the Lebanese population, especially those from areas affected by attacks, destruction, and loss of loved ones, livelihoods, and homes, now looks forward to these understandings translating into practical steps that definitively end the cycle of violence. He stressed the need to lay foundations for a period of security, stability, recovery, and reconstruction.

He also extended his gratitude to all countries and parties involved in facilitating this memorandum and to those who worked to include Lebanon in efforts aimed at ending escalation and stopping military operations across various fronts, recognizing the extent of suffering endured by the Lebanese over recent months.

Finally, the president expressed Lebanon’s hope that this development marks the start of a broader process that strengthens regional stability, preserves the sovereignty of states and the rights of their peoples, and allows the Lebanese to focus on rebuilding what was destroyed and restoring normal life within a secure and stable state.
