Lebanese University Clarifies Events Surrounding Medical School Entrance Exam

The Lebanese University responded in a statement to "information circulating regarding the entrance exam for medical, dental, and pharmacy schools." It stated: "It was found that there was a minor data discrepancy during the translation of a limited portion of one of the three sections of the chemistry subject, specifically in analytical chemistry, from French into English. The competent committee addressed the issue according to established academic procedures, and in order to safeguard the rights of all candidates, full marks were awarded for the affected questions to all candidates without exception or discrimination, ensuring fairness and preventing any candidate from being penalized for an error they were not responsible for. Furthermore, the results underwent the standard review and verification stages before publication, and no irregularities were detected that could compromise the integrity of the results after applying the corrective measures to all candidates."

It added: "The University emphasizes that what occurred was not due to a scientific content or competence error by the specialized committee, but rather a translation-related oversight, which was promptly corrected upon confirmation, thereby protecting candidates' rights and ensuring equal opportunity. At the same time, the University will implement necessary measures to strengthen verification and review mechanisms, particularly concerning exam translations, to minimize the possibility of such incidents recurring in the future."

It concluded: "While the University appreciates every comment or concern expressed with regard to its academic standards and students' rights, it reaffirms that academic matters are handled within institutional frameworks through specialized scientific committees, preserving the University's credibility, reputation, and the rights of all candidates."
