The Basic Education Association in Lebanon has announced an official strike for Thursday, October 15, 2026, in all public schools to protest delays in hiring teachers.

The Basic Education Association in Lebanon announced a strike on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in all public schools during both morning and afternoon shifts, protesting the delay in integrating hired and contracted teachers funded by school funds, while threatening additional escalation steps at the beginning of next week.
In a statement, the Association clarified that teachers have been waiting since the start of the academic year on September 15 for the completion of required studies for their integration into schools, without receiving any clarifications from the Ministry of Education regarding the fate of these studies, despite repeated demands.
It criticized the decision to open some public schools for afternoon shifts to educate Syrian students, at a time when a number of Lebanese students remain out of school, and the file of teacher integration for the morning shift has not yet been resolved.
It considered this reality to constitute an injustice against Lebanese teachers and students, affecting the principle of justice and equal opportunities, stressing its rejection of starting evening education before completing teacher integration and regularizing schooling in the morning shift.
The Association called on the Minister of Education to expedite handling the file and take the necessary decisions, emphasizing that "the Lebanese student is a priority and the public school is a red line."
It warned of taking additional escalation steps at the beginning of next week if its demands are not met, affirming its commitment to teachers' rights and protecting the public school system.
