On Monday, the Lebanese embassy in Washington confirmed that Hezbollah has agreed to a US proposal calling for a mutual cessation of hostilities with Israel.

The embassy stated in a communiqué shared by the Lebanese presidency on the platform "X" that, "As part of the efforts exerted by the Lebanese state to maintain stability and prevent further escalation, and following the communication between President General Joseph Aoun and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Lebanese authorities received confirmation of Hezbollah's approval of the US proposal for a mutual ceasefire."

The embassy further explained that under the proposed arrangement, Israeli strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut would cease in exchange for Hezbollah refraining from conducting attacks against Israel, with the ceasefire framework intended to be expanded to cover all Lebanese territory.

The statement noted that later, President Donald Trump contacted Lebanon's ambassador to the United States, Nada Mawwad, informing her that he had secured the approval of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the proposed arrangement. Ambassador Mawwad then relayed the discussion outcomes to President Aoun, who in turn communicated them to Hezbollah.

Concluding the statement, the embassy indicated that scheduled negotiation meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday are set to continue to discuss and build upon this progress.
