Ministry of Economy: 17,680 Inspections and 887 Violation Reports Issued Since Start of Year

The Consumer Protection Directorate at the Ministry of Economy and Trade announced in a report that "within the framework of its monitoring campaigns across various Lebanese territories, it carried out 17,680 field inspections from the beginning of the year until September 25, primarily focusing on food safety (9,872 inspections), fuel stations (2,674 inspections), water tanker agents (1,970 inspections), and private generators (1,045 inspections)."

The Consumer Protection Directorate confirmed that "during the same period, and in coordination with security and judicial authorities, it drafted 887 violation reports against offenders. These actions fall under 20 types of regulatory operations, including commodity and consumer goods prices, food safety, water tanker agents, fuel stations, among others, alongside private electrical generators which alone accounted for 505 reports."

The Directorate also received 1,735 complaints from consumers during the same period via the Ministry of Economy and Trade's electronic application, MoET Digital Services.

In one week, from September 21 to 25, the Consumer Protection Directorate responded to 57 consumer complaints and conducted 457 field inspections, resulting in the drafting of 51 violation reports against offenders."

The Ministry of Economy and Trade renewed its call for citizens and consumers to file complaints against any violations they observe, either through its electronic application (MoET Digital Services) or via the Consumer Association-Lebanon hotline (01750650).
