The Committee of Families of Prisoners in Lebanon announced the death of inmate Benjamin Zaaiter at Roumieh Prison, bringing the total prison deaths to seven since the general amnesty law was passed.

The "Committee of Families of Prisoners in Lebanon" announced the death of prisoner Benjamin Zaaiter inside Roumieh Prison, raising, according to the committee, the toll of deaths in Lebanese prisons to seven since the approval of the General Amnesty Law last August 12.
The committee stated that Zaaiter, in his fourth decade of life, died on Wednesday night in Building "D" at Roumieh following a health incident, noting that he suffered from kidney failure and required special medical and hospital care.
It added that prisoners appealed to the prison administration to expedite providing emergency aid, accusing the authorities of not responding with sufficient speed.
About 530 prisoners in Lebanon continue their open hunger strike against food and medicine for the nineteenth consecutive day, after the remaining inmates of Building "B" joined the strike, where prisoners escalated by preventing any food or nutritional materials from entering the building, declaring a complete closure. Additionally, prisoners from Building "D" in Roumieh and detainees in Baalbek Prison joined the strike.
A spokesperson for the prisoners said that the number of critical cases among those on strike has risen to 51 cases, adding that "the humanitarian scene has become tragic."
The Committee of Families of Prisoners demanded that the Constitutional Council end the suspension of the General Amnesty Law and reactivate it, holding the appeal filed against the law responsible for the continued suffering of prisoners.
It also stated that prisoner Munther Sharif died in Zahle Prison the day after the law was approved, and that they did not receive clarification regarding the circumstances of his death at that time.
