President Aoun expressed hope that "the negotiations in Rome tomorrow and the day after will result in tangible and practical steps on the ground, and the Israeli withdrawal and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the evacuated areas will begin."

Aoun added, before a delegation from the Elders Foundation, a delegation from the University of Balamand, and the former United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Sigrid Kaag: "The Lebanese army is carrying out its duties in all Lebanese territories, despite the difficult economic conditions that the soldiers are suffering from, and therefore it must be supported and provided with the necessary equipment."

He said: "The Prime Minister of Israel must realize that war will not achieve security, and therefore any stability will only come through negotiation and recognition that continuing the war has no result but more killing, destruction, and displacement."

He considered that "it is not possible to continue the approach of aggression while talking about peace and security, and historical experiences in all parts of the world clearly show that wars and force do not lead to peace and stability, or to the elimination of non-state forces, therefore Israel must change its approach if it truly wants to secure security and peace for its people and stability for the region."
