Protest Over Suspension of General Amnesty: Full Hunger Strike in Roumieh Prison!

Islamist prisoners in Roumieh Prison announced the start of a full hunger strike involving food, drink, and medication, including those with chronic illnesses, in protest against the suspension of the general amnesty law.

In a statement issued by them, the prisoners held political forces behind the law's suspension responsible for any consequences that may affect their lives, stating that their humanitarian case has been turned into a bargaining chip for partisan calculations.

The statement called for popular mobilizations across Lebanese regions in support of their cause, as well as an appeal to the Syrian people for solidarity, emphasizing that their suffering is shared and rejecting the use of their plight for political vendettas.

This escalation follows the Constitutional Council’s suspension of the general amnesty law after a legal challenge filed by MP Gebran Bassil and his parliamentary bloc.
