UNIFIL secured the evacuation of critically ill patients stranded in Rmeish amid fighting, enabling their transfer to Beirut for urgent medical care.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) facilitated the movement of ambulances operated by the Lebanese Red Cross and Civil Defense, which were transporting patients requiring urgent medical attention. These patients had been stranded for several days in the town of Rmeish due to escalating fighting obstructing main access routes. Their evacuation from the town was secured yesterday.
According to reports, the commander of UNIFIL's Western sector, Brigadier General Andrea Fraticelli, was informed about the patients' situation while present in the town delivering medicines, food supplies, personal hygiene items, and a vehicle. UNIFIL immediately coordinated with the Israeli army to facilitate their movement.
The operation was completed in the evening hours, with the ambulances safely reaching the city of Tyre. This enabled the civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, to continue their transfer later to the capital, Beirut.

This mission is part of a series of daily activities carried out by UNIFIL to support populations affected by ongoing hostilities in the south, as well as to assist displaced persons in various areas.
UNIFIL emphasized that maintaining coordination and communication mechanisms with relevant parties remains essential to enable humanitarian organizations to operate within its area of operations in southern Lebanon.
