UNIFIL Italian unit delivers food aid in Tyre district

The Italian unit serving with UNIFIL has delivered basic food aid to the disaster management unit in the Federation of Municipalities of the Tyre district. The aid was meant to support residents affected and ease their suffering from the ongoing aggression on the south.

The handover took place in the presence of UNIFIL Western Sector commander Gen. Andrea Fratchelli, Italian battalion commander Col. Luigi Carla, Federation of Municipalities of the Tyre district head Hassan Debouk, the federation’s disaster management unit director Mortada Mehna, and a number of municipal heads.

Debouk thanked the Italian battalion for “this contribution and humanitarian initiative,” praising its “standing by the people of the region and contributing to easing the humanitarian burdens on the affected families.” He also said it was important that such initiatives continue “in light of the difficult conditions the region is going through.”

Fratchelli said it was important to continue cooperation and coordination with local institutions and municipalities. He stressed UNIFIL’s commitment to supporting humanitarian initiatives aimed at backing residents and strengthening their resilience in the face of current challenges.
