What a Board Member of Lebanon's Electricity Authority Clarified About Widespread Power Outages

Returning to the widespread power outages across most Lebanese territories, a source at the board of Lebanon's Electricity Authority clarified that power generation remains operational at the Deir Ammar plant, and the funds necessary to open the letter of credit for the vessel docked off the Zahrani plant have been secured, pending transfer from Lebanese pounds to U.S. dollars, after which the letter of credit will be activated and the vessel allowed to discharge its cargo.

The source noted that the authority’s board, in coordination with the Minister of Energy and Water and his team, as well as the management of the Electricity Authority, continues working to collect outstanding dues from public administrations and institutions, while intensifying collection efforts nationwide, alongside a broad enforcement campaign targeting electricity theft and unauthorized network intrusions, all aimed at boosting the authority’s revenues and securing liquidity required to purchase fuel and ensure continuous production.

The source emphasized that the board is closely monitoring the fuel supply situation and its direct impact on the authority’s production capacity, while the authority continues, within available resources, to ensure power supply to the airport and essential public facilities, particularly government and institutional entities that have already paid their dues.
