Mary Trump claims her uncle welcomes Natalie Harp's constant presence because it satisfies his need for attention, describing the aide's behavior as psychologically abnormal.

In a recent podcast interview, Mary Trump offered a stark psychological explanation for why President Donald Trump maintains a close relationship with his personal aide, Natalie Harp. The former president’s niece characterized Harp’s unwavering devotion as filling an emotional void in Trump’s life, noting that he actively welcomes the attention rather than resisting it.
Talking to The Daily Beast Podcast, Mary described the 35-year-old aide as possessing “the qualities of a stalker.” She argued that this dynamic persists because Trump’s interactions are fundamentally transactional. According to Mary, it should be clear to him that his children do not care about him any more than he cares about them. She stated that these familial bonds are determined purely by who is getting what from whom.
Mary suggested that Trump accepts Harp’s presence because he lacks genuine care from others. “Donald is not getting the attention he needs, because nobody cares about him,” she said. In her view, Harp is willing to fill that specific role, creating a dependency where the subject of the stalking welcomes the behavior.

The discussion also touched on instability within Trump’s administration, specifically referencing the departure of former Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Mary labeled Leavitt “one of the most loyal, sycophantic, and disgraceful propagandists in the administration.” Despite this loyalty, Mary explained that even Leavitt had limits following the Air Force One incident. Leavitt resigned in August and subsequently joined Fox News as a contributor.
Mary distinguished Harp from other loyalists like Leavitt by asserting that something is “psychologically wrong with her.” To support this claim, she pointed to personal letters Harp wrote to Trump in 2023. In those communications, Harp referred to Trump as her “Guardian and Protector” and expressed fear of letting him down. Mary called this “the only case I’ve ever seen in which the stalking victim has welcomed being stalked.”
Harp has rarely left Trump’s side in recent months. She was one of three aides accompanying the president on his secret military jet when leaving Turkey in July. This proximity has drawn public attention; a September poll conducted by Daily Mail/J.L. Partners found that 42 percent of respondents wanted more answers regarding Harp’s role in the White House.
