Airtime competition defines the dynamic among the five women starring in The Golden Life, according to Sonja Morgan. While the cast maintains close personal bonds away from the cameras, Morgan told People that group interactions often devolve into intense conflicts over who gets to speak.

On-camera friction versus off-screen friendship

Morgan explained that the presence of all five strong personalities simultaneously creates a chaotic environment where individual voices are drowned out. She noted that smaller gatherings of two or three members function better, whereas full-group sessions lead to defensive posturing and embarrassment as each person worries about their image.

“In real life, it’s very rarely that all five of us are together,” Morgan said. “When you get five strong women together, the conflict is so intense. We’re better when we’re not all five together. If it’s two or three, we’re good. It’s just when everyone gets together, and they’re fighting for air time or camera time or whatever, you can’t get a word in edgewise.”

The reality star emphasized that viewers might question the authenticity of these relationships based on televised clashes. However, she insisted that the cast genuinely looks out for one another when the cameras are off, contrasting this with the defensiveness that emerges during production.

Series premiere and broadcast schedule

The Golden Life debuted on October 20, 2026, on the E! network. The series features Kelly Bensimon, Luann de Lesseps, Dorinda Medley, Sonja Morgan, and Ramona Singer. The first season comprises 10 episodes airing weekly on Tuesdays, available for streaming on Hulu.
