William and Kate’s silence strategy shields them from royal turmoil
Prince William and Kate Middleton maintain dignified silence to avoid recent family controversies, according to former BBC commentator Jennie Bond.

A deliberate choice of silence has allowed Prince William and Kate Middleton to sidestep the latest wave of royal family turbulence. The Prince and Princess of Wales have faced heightened public attention recently, yet they appear to be managing this scrutiny by refusing to engage with emerging narratives.
Strategic media silence adopted
The period of increased focus began on August 26, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made an unexpected return to the United Kingdom. Tensions escalated further on September 22 with the publication of Charles Spencer’s memoir concerning his sister, Princess Diana. Despite these developments, reports indicate that William and Kate have utilized a consistent approach to remain detached from the resulting controversy.
Jennie Bond, a former BBC royal commentator, observed that the institution has navigated the allegations raised during Spencer’s book tour without significant disruption. She commended the couple for their decision to ignore the "noise" and allegations, noting that this method has been their standard practice over many years. According to Bond, this strategy allows them to continue their official duties uninterrupted.
Focus on future responsibilities
Bond highlighted that this disciplined avoidance of media drama was equally effective following Prince Harry’s 2023 memoir, "Spare." By concentrating on their children and scheduled royal engagements, the couple directs their energy toward their eventual roles within the monarchy. "It’s very effective and I don’t see them getting sucked into the drama now," Bond stated regarding their current stance.
Russell Myers, the royal editor at The Mirror, reported that William feels deeply affected by the claims in his uncle’s book. Myers noted that the future king is "incredibly saddened" by the allegations against the family and feels "let down" by Spencer. This emotional impact contrasts sharply with their public composure.
Spencer’s prior notifications
Charles Spencer previously disclosed to PEOPLE magazine that he informed both nephews about his manuscript, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. He explained that he communicated with all four individuals—William, Harry, Lady Sarah, and Lady Jane—at the same time. Spencer specifically remarked that Harry remained "completely fine" with the project, while offering no similar comment regarding William’s reaction.
