Crew Girl has surged to the top of Netflix’s global Top TV Shows chart, according to FlixPatrol data updated on September 15, 2026. The Canadian series achieved the No. 1 position worldwide within five days of its September 10 debut on the platform.

How Crew Girl overtook established Netflix originals

The coming-of-age sports drama displaced long-running titles including The Gentlemen and The Perfect Lie. It also surpassed other Netflix originals such as Physical 100: Italy and Fauda in global viewership rankings.

The series centers on Teagan Tao, a gifted female rower portrayed by Miku Martineau, who moves to the East Coast of the United States. Upon arrival, she learns her new school has no girls’ rowing team—and agrees to serve as coxswain for the disorganized boys’ varsity crew.

Production details and filming locations

Vivian Lin and Morwyn Brebner developed Crew Girl. Blue Ant Studios and Great Pacific Media served as production companies. Filming occurred across British Columbia, specifically in Victoria and Sidney on Vancouver Island. Rowing sequences were shot at Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park and the Gorge Waterway. Hatley Castle stood in for the show’s fictional school.

Cast members underwent intensive rowing training prior to principal photography. Olympic gold-medal-winning coxswain Terry Paul led their preparation. A floating camera barge recorded tight close-ups during race scenes, while drone photography captured broader perspectives when actors rowed independently on the water.

Season structure and directing credits

The first season comprises eight episodes, each lasting between 40 and 45 minutes. Simon Barry directed the pilot episode. Norman Buckley and Amanda Tapping each helmed two episodes. Jessica Paré, Samuel Braun, Kyle Clark, and Thomas Cadrot join Martineau in the main cast.
