A news helicopter operated by the National Broadcasting organization crashed and ignited during live coverage of a fatal traffic collision in the Chatsworth district of Los Angeles, resulting in three deaths and multiple injuries.

The aircraft was airborne above the site of a deadly crash between an SUV and a public transit bus. That road accident killed two people and injured six others.

Just moments before the helicopter went down, photojournalist Eliana Moreno was broadcasting live from inside the aircraft. The helicopter then veered abruptly and fell between two commercial buildings near parked vehicles and two large shipping containers, triggering a massive fire and sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky above the area.

The helicopter crash claimed two lives: one person on the ground died at the scene, and authorities later confirmed the death of a second individual who had been aboard the aircraft. No official cause for the crash has been released, and the exact number of people aboard the helicopter remains unconfirmed by authorities.

Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Brandon Silverman told reporters at the scene that the helicopter was completely destroyed, necessitating a search through the debris to identify victims aboard the aircraft and to determine the identity of the downed helicopter.
