Security camera exposes gold theft ring in Alexandria
Egyptian police recovered six stolen gold bars worth 3.5 million pounds after a surveillance camera exposed the thieves' identities.

Egyptian security forces dismantled a criminal gang and recovered all stolen assets following the theft of six gold bars valued at approximately 3.5 million Egyptian pounds from a jewelry shop in Fayoum Governorate. The operation, which initially appeared meticulously planned, ended with the arrest of four suspects.
Theft method and surveillance failure
According to case details, one suspect entered the store claiming an interest in purchasing gold bars. He exploited the fact that the female shop owner was working alone to steal the items using distraction techniques. The perpetrator then quickly exited the premises, operating under the assumption that wearing a head covering would prevent his identification.
However, the suspect failed to notice a small surveillance camera inside the store that recorded his movements. A video clip of the incident subsequently circulated widely on social media platforms, initiating security investigations that led to the determination of his identity.
Suspects’ backgrounds and confessions
Investigations revealed that the primary suspect and his brother reside in Alexandria Governorate and have prior criminal records and known histories. Security forces tracked and detained both individuals. The brothers confessed to committing the act and provided information regarding a car, a mobile phone, and cash amounts they stated were proceeds from selling gold jewelry stolen in previous incidents.
Recovery of stolen gold bars
Further inquiries traced the path of the stolen bars, revealing they had been sold to the owners of two jewelry shops in Alexandria. Authorities arrested these two additional suspects and successfully located and recovered the full quantity of the stolen gold bars.
The four defendants have been referred to competent authorities for the completion of investigations. The small surveillance camera ultimately served as the critical link that unraveled the entire operation and returned the stolen gold to its rightful owners.
