Tourist Suffers Severe Injuries After Bridge Fall During Birthday Trip
Tourist Nina Bakhshi faces a difficult recovery after falling from a bridge in Mexico, sustaining serious spinal and neck injuries without insurance coverage.

Nina Bakhshi is undergoing a challenging recovery following a fall from a bridge during a birthday trip with friends in Mexico, which resulted in severe spinal and neck injuries. The accident caused multiple fractures and escalated into a critical medical emergency.
According to a GoFundMe campaign created to assist with her medical expenses, Bakhshi described the incident as a nightmare due to the lack of immediate proper medical care at the scene. She reported that emergency equipment was unavailable, and she had to be carried for approximately 30 minutes before waiting for an ambulance that never arrived.
Eventually, she was transported by truck for about an hour to a hospital where urgent treatment began. At the time of the accident, Bakhshi did not have travel insurance, and a local insurance policy associated with the park did not cover the emergency surgery she needed.
Her friends and family quickly mobilised to support her by pooling funds, maxing out credit cards, and lending money as her condition worsened. Surgery was postponed until roughly 28 hours after the fall, partly due to the incident occurring over a weekend and logistical delays in arranging care.
Originally from Los Angeles, Bakhshi shared an emotional update on her condition, stating, “It was the most painful and terrifying experience of my life, but thankfully the doctors were able to save my lower back, and I can move my legs now.”
She expressed gratitude for surviving but noted that her recovery remains incomplete, with untreated neck fractures, ongoing medical expenses, physical therapy, follow-up appointments, medications, and a lengthy healing process ahead.
“At this time, I am unable to walk normally or return to work,” she added. Bakhshi also revealed that she remains in Mexico as she continues her recovery and is not yet well enough to travel home.
“I have never been comfortable asking for help, but after everything that has happened, I truly cannot get through this alone. I’m stuck in Mexico hoping to feel better enough to get on a plane,” she said.
The GoFundMe page indicates that donations will be used for ongoing medical treatment, rehabilitation, and to reimburse the support provided by friends and family during the emergency.
