The US Mint announced the release of its first non-circular coin in modern history, shaped like the Liberty Bell, to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The United States Mint has unveiled its first non-circular coin in modern American history, scheduled for release in July to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the country's independence.
In an official statement, the Mint declared, "The United States Mint proudly announces the issuance of a commemorative coin celebrating America's 250th anniversary, titled 'Liberty Bell,' in a limited edition. To honor the anniversary of our nation's founding, a Liberty Bell-shaped coin has been issued, marking the first non-circular coin in modern US history."
The coin, designed in the shape of a bell, features inscriptions on its obverse side including the word "Liberty" and the traditional phrase "In God We Trust."
On the reverse, the coin displays an image of the Independence Hall in Philadelphia, the site where the Declaration of Independence was adopted and where the Liberty Bell was located. Surrounding the building are the words "United States of America."
The coin will be available in three variants:
A 28-gram gold edition with a purity of 9999, priced at $19,600 (approximately 1.5 million rubles).
A 14-gram gold edition with a purity of 9999, priced at $10,050 (approximately 768,804 rubles).
A 14-gram silver edition, priced at $750 (approximately 57,400 rubles).
Only 2,026 pieces of each variant will be minted, with sales commencing at 12:00 PM local time on July 16, 2026. The Mint's website stipulates a purchase limit of one coin per family.
It is noteworthy that the last non-circular coin issued in the United States was in 1915, created for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco. That coin was octagonal, composed of 90% gold.
