App Store Sees 90% of $1.4 Trillion in Sales Free of Commission
Apple's App Store generated over $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2025, with 90% of transactions free from commission fees.

In 2025, the App Store facilitated more than $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales, marking an increase from the $1.3 trillion reported the previous year. Apple shared these figures ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled for next week.
This total encompasses all transactions conducted through apps on Apple's platform, highlighting the financial opportunities available to mobile developers beyond just in-app purchase sales. Apple emphasized that its commission on digital goods purchases represents a relatively small share of the overall revenue.
According to Apple’s announcement, 90% of the $1.4 trillion in transactions did not incur any commission fees. Breaking down the total, $1.1 trillion came from sales of physical goods and services, while $149 billion was attributed to digital goods billings and sales. The commission rates on digital goods range from 15% to 30%, depending on the type of transaction and the size of the business, with this segment growing from $131 billion the previous year.
Apple also reported that in-app advertising revenue reached $151 billion in 2025, slightly higher than the $150 billion recorded in 2024. The App Store attracted over 850 million average weekly users across 175 countries and regions during the year.
Highlighting the rise of artificial intelligence, Apple noted that 40 of the top 100 apps in 2025 featured consumer-facing AI capabilities, which experienced stronger billing growth compared to other leading apps. This development may precede announcements at WWDC regarding Apple’s plans to permit AI agents on the App Store, as speculated.
Apple is expected to unveil its own AI-related updates at WWDC, including a revamp of Siri and enhanced AI integration within its operating systems.
Regarding regional growth, Apple pointed out that App Store billings and sales in China have more than doubled over the past six years. In the United States and Europe, these figures have more than tripled. The majority of this growth is linked to physical goods and services such as retail, grocery delivery, ride-hailing, and travel.
