Apple continues development of a foldable iPad, aiming for a launch possibly by 2028 or 2029 with a large, crease-free screen design.

Apple has not abandoned its foldable iPad concept despite earlier rumors suggesting the project was halted. Recent reports confirm the company is still developing the device, with a potential release in the coming years, positioning it as one of Apple’s most ambitious products.
According to the latest leaks, the foldable iPad will feature an advanced hinge design similar to those used in foldable smartphones, enabling a nearly crease-free display when unfolded. The device is expected to have a large screen measuring up to 18 inches, merging the tablet and laptop experiences into a single product.
When opened, the device is anticipated to resemble a laptop with a full-sized screen, featuring a metal body and no external display. This design would create a hybrid between an iPad and a MacBook.
Previous reports indicated the project was delayed due to technical challenges and production costs. However, recent information reveals the foldable iPad has returned to development stages. Launch predictions currently target 2028, with a possibility of delay to 2029 if technical obstacles persist.
The device is rumored to incorporate technologies Apple is developing for its forthcoming foldable iPhone, including hinge mechanisms and display innovations.
While the foldable iPad concept is groundbreaking for Apple, similar products already exist in the market, such as Huawei’s MateBook Fold, which offers a large screen that folds to a smaller size.
Apple’s entry into the foldable device sector could significantly impact the market, especially if it delivers a user experience combining the power of iPads with the portability of MacBooks.
If Apple applies the pricing strategy used for the iPad Pro line, the foldable iPad is expected to be priced very high, reflecting its large screen and new technologies. This would likely position it as a premium product aimed at professional users and technology enthusiasts.
