Fortnite Returns to iOS App Store Globally After Six Years
After nearly six years, Fortnite has reappeared on the iOS App Store worldwide following a series of US court rulings. Epic Games has resumed availability on iPhones and iPads, except in Australia where legal disputes persist.

Nearly six years after being removed, Fortnite is once again accessible on the iOS App Store across most of the globe as of May 19, 2026. Epic Games has restored the popular game on iPhones and iPads, marking the end of a lengthy absence that began when Apple took it down in 2020 for breaching its payment policies.
The game's reintroduction onto Apple's platform was not the result of a settlement but followed a series of legal decisions in the United States. In May 2025, a federal judge ordered Apple to permit Fortnite’s return to the US App Store, warning that an Apple executive might be summoned to court if the company failed to comply. Apple subsequently allowed the game back. Later, in April 2026, the Ninth Circuit Court lifted a stay that had previously restricted the ruling’s scope, enabling Epic to expand Fortnite’s availability worldwide.
Legal Battles Shape Fortnite’s Comeback
Epic Games is leveraging Apple’s acknowledgment in Supreme Court filings that international regulators are closely monitoring the case. The company argues that once Apple is compelled to disclose its actual operating costs under US transparency mandates, regulatory bodies globally will find it difficult to uphold the current commission rates.
"We're bringing Fortnite back to the App Store now because we're confident that once Apple is compelled to reveal its true costs, governments around the world simply won't allow these hidden fees to continue," Epic stated.
What Players Can Expect
Fortnite is now downloadable on iPhones starting with the iPhone 11 model and on iPads from the 10.5-inch iPad Pro onward. Both Battle Royale and Zero Build modes are available. Purchases of V-Bucks, the game’s virtual currency, can be made without the additional charges usually imposed by Apple’s 30% commission on in-app payments.
Australia Remains an Exception
Australia stands out as the only major market where Fortnite is still unavailable on the App Store. In August 2025, an Australian court ruled that Apple’s developer terms violated the law, but Apple has refused to alter its conditions without a separate enforcement directive. Epic Games has maintained its position, withholding Fortnite’s release there until Apple either adjusts its payment policies or a court mandates the change. This dispute remains unresolved.
For all other regions, despite ongoing legal conflicts, Fortnite’s presence on iOS devices has been restored, allowing millions of players to access the game once again.
