Meta has introduced a new feature for its paid subscribers on Instagram that allows them to view Stories without appearing in the list of viewers.

Alongside the announcement of paid subscription packages for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Meta revealed a set of exclusive tools for subscribers, including the ability to watch Instagram Stories anonymously.

Under the new plan, Instagram Plus subscribers will be able to browse Stories without account holders knowing they have viewed them.

According to a report by Inquirer Technology, a technology news site affiliated with the Philippine newspaper Inquirer, this feature was not launched abruptly. It underwent limited testing over recent months in several countries, including the Philippines, Japan, and Mexico.

Following these trials, Meta decided to incorporate the feature into its gradually expanding paid subscription system across its platforms.

While the concept of anonymously viewing Stories is not entirely new, users previously relied on browser extensions or third-party services to access this functionality, particularly on Instagram.

Now, this capability has become an official part of Meta's paid services, eliminating the need for unofficial solutions.

The new feature has sparked mixed reactions among platform users. Some view it as a tool that offers greater privacy and browsing freedom, while others believe it undermines a key aspect of Story interaction—the content creator's ability to see who has viewed their posts.

Privacy advocates have expressed concerns about potential consequences, noting that the feature could make it harder to detect unwanted tracking or surveillance, since the viewer's identity will no longer be visible to the Story owner as is customary.

Inquirer Technology's report also states that Meta plans to continue enhancing its paid subscription programs by adding new features related to artificial intelligence and content personalization for creators in various global markets and regions.
