Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be available on five platforms starting August 27, 2026, ending its exclusive PlayStation 3 availability.

On August 27, 2026, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will become accessible on multiple current-generation platforms, ending its PlayStation 3 exclusivity that began in 2008. Konami is releasing Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2, which includes the game alongside other titles, making it the sole official way to play MGS4 on modern hardware.
Japanese gaming bloggers have shared about an hour of gameplay footage from the Master Collection Vol.2 version, showcasing the opening sequence and providing insight into how the game performs on newer systems. Although this release is not a remake or full remaster, Konami has confirmed enhancements in resolution and frame rate compared to the original PS3 version, which ran at 720p and 30fps. These improvements result in a noticeably better visual experience.
The Master Collection Vol.2 also bundles Peace Walker HD and Ghost Babel as bonus titles, along with a Vol.2 soundtrack and supplementary Master Books and Screenplay Books. Players who own Master Collection Vol.1 will be able to carry over their save data to this new volume.
However, the multiplayer component Metal Gear Online 2 (MGO2), which was included with the original PS3 release, will not be part of the Master Collection version. Konami confirmed this absence through an official statement reported by GamingBible. Peace Walker retains online co-op support for up to six players, but the Stealth Deathmatch modes central to MGO2’s community are not included.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2 will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The digital edition is priced at $49.99, matching the cost of the physical Day One Edition, which includes a steelbook in select markets. The first volume of the Master Collection has seen discounts down to $37.99 on Steam, suggesting possible future sales for Vol.2 as well.
Game preservation has been a key rationale behind this port, as aging PS3 hardware has made legitimate play of MGS4 increasingly difficult. This release will allow players to experience the entire Solid Snake saga on a single current console for the first time.
