Microsoft has officially declared that it will discontinue the Collections feature in its Edge browser beginning June 2026. This decision has sparked dissatisfaction among many users who regarded Collections as one of the browser's most effective productivity tools that set it apart from competitors.

The Collections feature allowed users to save web pages, images, notes, shopping links, and research content within organized, visual panels that could be synchronized across multiple devices. It gained considerable popularity among students, researchers, and online shoppers due to its ability to organize information more flexibly and easily than traditional bookmarks.

Upon its launch, Collections provided a combined experience of saving content, note-taking, and project organization directly within the browser. This made it a valuable tool for planning trips, managing research, comparing products, and storing ideas and references from various websites.

The removal of Collections coincides with Microsoft's ongoing efforts to reshape the Edge browser to rely more heavily on artificial intelligence technologies. Over the past two years, the company has introduced several AI-related features linked to its Copilot assistant, such as webpage summarization, smart writing tools, contextual search, and AI-powered conversations.

Critics argue that eliminating Collections represents a significant loss for users because it addressed a practical daily need to organize digital information and content without relying on external applications like Notion, Pinterest, or Pocket. Collections also offered a visual and straightforward way to arrange projects and ideas directly within the browser.

Microsoft has not officially announced any AI tools as direct replacements for Collections. However, the timing of the decision has led many to believe the company is gradually making room for more AI-based experiences at the expense of some traditional tools that users depend on daily.

For long-time Edge users, the disappearance of Collections means losing one of the key features that gave the browser its unique identity, alongside other functionalities such as vertical tabs and intelligent tab sleeping. Microsoft has yet to reveal a direct alternative that provides the same visual organization experience for which Collections was known.
