On August 18, 2026, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will lose access to nine games from their digital libraries, including Dead Island 2 and Harold Halibut. This removal includes five titles that were initially set to leave in July but were extended until August.

The games scheduled for removal on August 18 are Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Onee Chanbara Origin, Space Crew: Legendary Edition, Earth Defense Force 6, and Unicorn Overlord, along with Dead Island 2, Harold Halibut, and two others.

Subscribers on the Extra and Premium tiers have until that date to play these games or consider purchasing them outright, although digital rights management and corporate policies may limit ownership options.

Meanwhile, starting July 21, the PS Plus Extra and Premium digital catalog will add new titles such as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Rise of the Ronin, Firefighting Simulator: Ignite, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, Dying Light, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, and Snow Bros. Wonderland. Premium subscribers will also gain access to Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy and Indigo Prophecy.

Among the departing and arriving games, Dead Island 2, Harold Halibut, Dying Light, and Citizen Sleeper 2 come highly recommended.

This update is separate from the monthly downloadable games available to all PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium subscribers, which from July 7 to August 3 include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, For the King II, and CrossCode. These downloadable games can be kept as long as the subscription remains active.

As the industry shifts, Sony announced plans to cease production of disc-based games by 2028, indicating that the upcoming PS6 console will likely not support physical media. Similarly, Xbox is expanding its online and cloud services, while Nintendo promotes digital purchases through lower prices and game-key cards requiring internet downloads. Valve has introduced a SteamOS PC aimed at living room gaming, and the digital-first handheld market remains strong. Subscription models and licensing agreements are becoming the dominant format for video games.
