A new report suggests Samsung is working on a Galaxy Z Fold 9 with a folded profile of 7.9mm and an unfolded thickness of 3.9mm. These figures represent a significant slimming compared to the current Galaxy Z Fold 8, which measures 9.7mm closed and 4.5mm open. The information originates from tipster kro_roe and has not been verified by Samsung.

Dimensions rival iPhone Duo specs

Should the device meet these projected measurements, it would be 1.8mm thinner in its closed state and 0.6mm slimmer when opened than its predecessor. The claimed specifications also place the Fold 9 below the cited dimensions of the iPhone Duo in both configurations. While Apple’s foldable model supports stylus interaction, Samsung reportedly removed stylus compatibility to achieve a reduced profile.

Under-display camera return possible

The concept remains in active development as a direct competitor to the iPhone Duo, targeting the stated thickness goals. Additionally, sources indicate Samsung may reintroduce under-display camera (UDC) technology for the inner screen. This feature was present across four generations, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 through the Galaxy Z Fold 6, before being replaced by a standard display cutout that improved selfie image quality.

Launch timelines suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 9 will not appear until summer 2027. This extended window allows ample time for design adjustments. The central challenge for Samsung involves delivering the promised reduction in thickness while simultaneously restoring the concealed inner camera system prior to the device's anticipated debut.
