Spotify integrates with Siri on iOS 27, removing app-name requirement
Spotify announced that iOS 27 users can now command Siri to play music without explicitly naming the app.

Spotify confirmed Tuesday that iPhone owners running iOS 27 no longer need to append "on Spotify" when issuing voice commands to Siri. The update streamlines interaction with the streaming service’s applications, allowing direct requests for audio content.
How the new integration works
Users may simply state their desired listening choice, and Siri will execute the request through Spotify. This applies to specific tracks, albums, podcasts, or audiobooks. Broader queries such as "play workout music" or feature-specific commands like "play my DJ" also function without the extra phrasing.
The system supports additional voice-controlled actions, including requesting personalized recommendations, resuming podcasts, searching libraries, and creating AI-driven Prompted Playlists. Spotify stated that eliminating the mandatory app name makes hands-free usage feel more natural. Listeners can focus on content selection rather than structuring commands to trigger the correct application.
Device and regional availability
This functionality relies on Siri’s ability to learn individual music app preferences. Consistent use of Spotify enables automatic routing of audio requests to the platform. The feature is accessible globally for devices starting with the iPhone 15 Pro, provided Apple Intelligence is enabled in Settings. However, it remains unavailable within the European Union.
