Striker Completes First Surgery Using Apple Vision Pro

Striker has completed the first known surgical procedure using Apple’s Vision Pro headset. The operation—a hip arthroscopy—was performed using the company’s newly launched SportSuite Vision application, which delivers critical digital content within the surgeon’s virtual visual environment.

According to 9to5mac, Striker describes SportSuite Vision as “critical digital content in the surgeon’s visual environment.” The application enables surgeons to view physical instruments in the operating room alongside digital tools—including endoscopic imagery, HipCheck, HipMap, and computed tomography scans—all overlaid directly into their field of vision.

Surgeons routinely rely on multiple external display screens positioned throughout the operating room to access imaging data and procedural information. By consolidating multiple data sources into the surgeon’s natural line of sight, the technology reduces dependence on traditional monitors and supports a more fluid, ergonomic surgical workflow.

FDA De Novo clearance marks a regulatory milestone

SportSuite Vision has received De Novo classification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Striker states this makes it the first FDA-authorized application for use during surgery with the Apple Vision Pro headset.

Surgeon’s perspective from Duke Health

The hip arthroscopy was conducted at Duke Health. Orthopedic surgeon Chad Mathur III, who performed the procedure, praised both the Vision Pro device and the SportSuite Vision application. He stated: “Spatial computing enabled me to customize the placement of key clinical information to match my workflow and access it within a sterile environment. This helped create a more comfortable and seamless operating room environment while keeping the information I need within reach.”

This week, Pfizer also announced it is using the Apple Vision Pro headset to develop an immersive experience illustrating its commitment to overcoming cancer.
