World Cup 2026
Christian Pulisic Ruled Out of US Match Against Australia in World Cup
Christian Pulisic will miss the United States' upcoming World Cup group stage match against Australia due to a calf injury, raising doubts about his tournament future.

Christian Pulisic will not participate in the United States' second World Cup group stage game against Australia because of a calf injury.
The 27-year-old winger, who plays for AC Milan, had a key role in the US team's 4-1 win over Paraguay at the Los Angeles Stadium, providing one assist and creating four chances before being substituted in the 46th minute by coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Concerns about Pulisic's fitness for the match against Australia have been confirmed, as the calf issue has ruled him out and cast uncertainty over his continuation in the tournament.
Before the game, Pochettino told Fox, “Christian is not available. The evolution is really well.” He added, “Today, he was training in the morning in the camp and I’ve seen the feelings are good. I hope as soon as possible he can be ready to be selected again and to be part of the team.”
The coach also emphasized the need to focus on the players available, stating, “We have ahead a very important game and Australia is going to be really tough. A little bit sad because he wanted to stay, wanted to participate today.”
If the USMNT secures a victory over Australia, they will strengthen their chances of advancing to the round of 32, marking their third consecutive progression from the group stage and potentially finishing first in Group D.
However, if Pulisic is unable to return for later matches, it could hinder the United States' attempt to advance beyond the last 16 for the first time since reaching the quarter-finals in 2002 in Japan.
Pulisic is among several prominent players sidelined by injury, including Neymar, who has not yet played in the World Cup and is confirmed to miss Brazil’s second group match against Haiti, scheduled for 01:30 (BST).
The United States will face Australia at Lumen Field in Seattle with kickoff set for 20:00 (BST). The match will be broadcast live on BBC One and the BBC Sport website.
