England Faces Worst World Cup Quarterfinal Record Ahead of Norway Clash
England confronts its worst historical World Cup quarterfinal record before the upcoming match against Norway in the 2026 tournament.

England's national football team is set to face Norway in the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup, aiming to overcome a longstanding historical challenge.
The match will take place at midnight at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, USA, as part of the World Cup hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
According to Prime Video, England holds the poorest record in World Cup quarterfinal history, despite having reached this stage on ten previous occasions.
Out of those ten appearances, England has advanced beyond the quarterfinals only three times, while being eliminated seven times, making it the team with the most quarterfinal exits in World Cup history.
England's first successful quarterfinal advancement was against Argentina with a 1-0 win in the 1966 World Cup, which led to their first and only World Cup title. The second was a 3-2 victory over Cameroon in the 1990 tournament, and the most recent was a 2-0 win against Sweden in 2018.
Conversely, England has been eliminated in the quarterfinals by three European teams: Germany in 1970 with a 2-3 loss, Portugal in 2006 via penalty shootout, and France in the last World Cup with a 1-2 defeat.
The other four quarterfinal exits came from matches against Brazil twice, losing 1-3 in 1962 and 1-2 in 2002; Uruguay with a 2-4 loss in 1954; and Argentina with a 1-2 defeat in 1986.
