Ghanaian sorcerer Nana Kwaku Bonsam has asserted that he removed a curse placed on English striker Harry Kane, which reportedly stopped Kane from scoring against Ghana in the second round of the 2026 competition.

Bonsam had cast a spell on the England captain, who missed a clear scoring chance from six yards in the match that ended in a 0-0 draw on Tuesday. The missed opportunity left England supporters stunned, while Kane knelt on the pitch after what was described as the strangest miss of the game.

On Wednesday, Bonsam declared his task complete in an interview with the British newspaper The Sun. He said, "I restrained Harry Kane in the match against Ghana, and now I will release him so he can score in the next game."

He added, "Harry Kane, do not be angry with me, we are friends, but I had to do what was necessary. I have released you, and I thank the powers of Kofi Kofi and the ancestors of this land."

Bonsam continued, "I am the strongest spiritualist in the world. Harry Kane, you are my friend, and I just want to tell you that I have removed your restraint."

Nana Kwaku Bonsam, whose name means "Wednesday Devil," claims his power comes from the shrine of Kofi-O-Kofi located in a Ghanaian village.

He is well-known in Ghana and claims responsibility for injuring the knee of a Portuguese star during the 2014 World Cup.

However, Bonsam expressed concern about facing the Democratic Republic of Congo in the next round, warning, "But may God protect us if we face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the next round—they will have dozens of sorcerers."

Currently, Ghana stands second in their group with four points, level on points with group leaders England but trailing on goal difference. Both teams lead by one point over Croatia, which is third, while Panama is last with no points and has been officially eliminated from the tournament.

Ghana is set to play Croatia in the final round, which will also feature a match between England and Panama.
