As the kickoff for the world's largest sporting event approaches, recent data from the hospitality analytics platform "Hostaway" reveals an unprecedented surge in accommodation and hotel prices across the 16 cities hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Some cities have experienced price increases exceeding 300%, fueled by growing demand from spectators.

The same source reported that the average cost for a single night's stay in the host cities has broken records, reaching approximately $499. This average is expected to climb further to around $524 during the match days.

Canada Leads with Highest Accommodation Costs

Vancouver tops the list as the most expensive city for accommodation during the tournament, with prices approaching $890 per night. Experts attribute this spike to the limited hotel capacity facing the expected influx of visitors.

Toronto follows with a comparatively moderate average price of $496 per night.

United States Hotel Supply Shapes Price Distribution

In the United States, which hosts 11 of the tournament's cities, supply and demand dynamics have strongly influenced pricing. Boston and New York recorded the highest average nightly rates in the country, about $611.

Conversely, Los Angeles and Seattle maintained more stable prices, around $383 per night.

Houston emerged as a cost-effective option with an average price of $205 per night, benefiting from its extensive hotel infrastructure, which includes over 100,000 rooms.

Mexico Offers Lowest Prices but Sharpest Increases

Mexican cities remain the most affordable among the three host countries, yet they have experienced the fastest price surges. Mexico City and Monterrey saw average prices between $131 and $135 per night.

Guadalajara, however, witnessed an extraordinary jump in rates, soaring from a typical $89 to over $511 once the matches began.

Short-Term Rentals Reach Astronomical Prices Near Stadiums

Short-term rental accommodations listed on digital platforms have not been immune to this price inflation, with an overall average rate of $228 per night.

Prices near historic stadiums have escalated dramatically. Some units close to MetLife Stadium in New York and Azteca Stadium in Mexico have reached astronomical rates exceeding $6,000 per night during opening matches and knockout rounds.
