A CNN report revealed details of the American plan to secure the passage of ships stranded near the Strait of Hormuz, following US President Donald Trump's announcement of assistance to affected ships in the region, against the backdrop of military escalation related to the US-Israeli war on Iran.

The network explained that the American plan will rely on a combination of advanced military capabilities, including missile destroyers, more than 100 aircraft, and multi-domain unmanned platforms, in addition to about 15,000 military personnel.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that these assets may be used in various ways to ensure the safety of navigation in one of the world's most important maritime passages.

Missile-Guided Destroyers

"Arleigh Burke" class destroyers form the backbone of the US fleet, with the United States having 12 destroyers in the Middle East as of April 24, according to the report.

Some of them were used to impose a blockade on Iranian ports, but those operations took place outside the Strait in the Arabian Sea.

Since the outbreak of the war, CENTCOM has only announced the entry of two destroyers into the Strait to pave the way for mine clearance operations. These destroyers are also primarily used for air defense of carrier groups, which means that not all of them will be dedicated to operating inside the Strait, and they are not expected to directly escort commercial ship convoys.

More than 100 Aircraft

The United States maintains a wide range of aircraft in the region, both from aircraft carriers and land bases.

Armed helicopters can be used to escort ships and target small boats that might try to disrupt navigation, while A-10 attack aircraft can target naval targets or missile platforms on land.

Multi-Domain Unmanned Platforms

These platforms include drones and unmanned naval vessels that can move with ships or be stationed near the Strait to monitor for any threats.

These systems may be equipped with weapons or used for surveillance and reconnaissance purposes depending on the nature of the mission.

Approximately 15,000 Military Personnel

The network states that while this number seems large, most of them perform supporting roles and are not actually deployed inside the Strait.

There are also at least two American aircraft carriers in the region, each with about 5,000 personnel, and their air capabilities can be used to secure the airspace over the Strait.
