After Describing It as 'Positive,' Does Witkoff Carry the Key to Ending the War to Putin?
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described envoy Steve Witkoff's talks with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy as positive, noting Witkoff is heading to Russia to propose direct trilateral negotiations between Trump, Zelenskyy, and Putin.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that the talks conducted by US envoy Steve Witkoff with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Oslo on Tuesday were "positive," indicating that Witkoff is now on his way to meet with officials in Russia.
Rubio said during a visit to India that the talks "were positive, nothing unexpected, nothing surprising, and he will now be able to go to Saint Petersburg carrying these ideas and sharing them with the Russian side," adding, "Let us see if we can make some progress."
The US special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will present to Russian President Vladimir Putin a proposal for direct talks with President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an effort to reach a ceasefire.
A report by "Politico" stated that this proposal—which calls for trilateral negotiations among leaders regarding a peace plan, the first summit of its kind since the war began in 2022—was announced during a press conference held on Tuesday, following talks in Norway between Zelenskyy and Witkoff.
