Biden, 83, Diagnosed with Aggressive Prostate Cancer, Now Experiencing Severe Pain

Hunter Biden disclosed that his father, former U.S. President Joe Biden, is enduring severe pain and significant disruption to his daily life due to prostate cancer, even as Biden continues publicly expressing views on national issues.

In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Hunter Biden stated the cancer has spread to his father’s bones and other areas of his body, describing the condition as “painful and debilitating.”

His emotional distress was evident during the interview as he spoke about his 83-year-old father’s declining health, calling the experience “deeply sad.”

Nonetheless, Hunter Biden affirmed that his father remains engaged with public affairs and continues speaking on matters important to him, while rarely complaining about his pain to family members, according to the Associated Press.

Diagnosis and Treatment Timeline

Biden’s office announced in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, graded at Gleason score 9, with bone metastasis. At that time, officials indicated the cancer is hormone-sensitive, allowing for hormonal therapy as a treatment approach.

Subsequently, Biden underwent both radiation therapy and hormonal therapy as part of a clinical plan to manage the disease, the Associated Press reported.

Historical Context

Biden holds the distinction of being the oldest person to have served as U.S. president. He left the White House after completing a single term, having withdrawn from the 2024 presidential election amid widespread debate over his health and capacity to carry out presidential duties.
