A government report to Iran's supreme leader puts war losses at $28 billion, while other officials cite figures up to $120 billion.

A member of the Iranian parliament's economic committee has revealed that the government submitted a report to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei estimating war damages from the conflict with the United States and Israel at approximately $28 billion. Meysam Zohourian stated on Sunday evening that the loss estimates, derived from meetings held over the past two weeks with various relevant bodies, generally range between $20 billion and $40 billion.
The official government figure of $28 billion, Zohourian explained, encompasses sectors such as energy and heavy industries, including the steel sector. He added that some unofficial estimates citing losses as high as $90 billion or $120 billion are based on inaccurate calculations, incorporating what he described as "indirect or illogical losses," and stressed that these numbers are exaggerated and do not reflect the actual reality.
Contrasting with the government's assessment, several parliament members have stated that the war inflicted losses on Iran amounting to nearly $120 billion. This discrepancy highlights a significant rift in official circles regarding the true scale of the damage.
In mid-April, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani announced that preliminary estimates indicated the compensation value from US and Israeli attacks on Iran could reach around $270 billion. Mohajerani clarified that these estimates include damage to civilian buildings, commercial facilities, and factories, as well as losses affecting the education sector, including the rights of students killed in some attacks, such as the incident in Minab in the south of the country.
