Drone Swarms Breach Israeli Borders from Egypt Amid Calls for Military Action
Israeli media report increasing arms smuggling via drone swarms crossing from Egypt, urging the Israeli military to intervene at the southern border.

Israeli media have reported a rise in arms smuggling across the Egyptian border, involving coordinated swarms of drones used collectively to transport weapons. The Israeli news platform "HaKol HaYehudi" (The Jewish Voice) highlighted that despite public and media focus shifting elsewhere, arms trafficking along the Egyptian border continues unabated and is reportedly intensifying.
According to security officials and local residents in the area, a new pattern has emerged where multiple drones operate together as a single unit under one operator, facilitating the smuggling of weapons across the border. Residents near the "Petah Nitzana" area confirmed that smuggling occurs almost every hour, day and night, with no significant changes in the situation despite claims of intervention by the Israeli internal security service, the Shin Bet.
The report noted that drones cross the border without hindrance, flying over or near Israeli settlements without encountering obstacles. The border is described as completely exposed, allowing Bedouin individuals to approach the security fence freely at any time. It was also stated that reaching any point along the fence is possible 24 hours a day, but military response is slow, often limited to the arrival of a single jeep that fails to intercept the smugglers.
Furthermore, the Shin Bet is either unable or unwilling to effectively address this phenomenon. Bedouins from the "Bir Hadaj" area reportedly reach the fence and return to their homes without being apprehended. The ongoing situation has persisted for three years since October 7, with no substantial change.
The greatest concern expressed is the potential scenario in which Bedouin groups receive calls to openly engage in combat against Israel. While no serious threat is perceived from the Egyptian military, the report criticized Israel for not holding Egypt accountable for permitting arms smuggling from its territory without obstruction.
Residents and security officials alike confirm the emergence of a new smuggling tactic involving drones flying in "cells" or swarms, with multiple drones operating simultaneously to increase the volume of smuggled weapons.
The report concluded by emphasizing that Israeli state attention is focused primarily on a 20-kilometer radius around the Knesset and the airport, expressing frustration over the neglect of the southern border region.
These Israeli reports come amid ongoing efforts by Tel Aviv to hold Egypt responsible for any security breaches along their shared border, despite intensive security coordination between the two countries. This escalation in Israeli media rhetoric appears aimed at pressuring Cairo to tighten border controls or to justify potential military operations in Sinai, while Egypt continues to strengthen its border security and combat smuggling as part of a comprehensive security strategy.
