EU to Disburse €3.3 Billion to Ukraine Friday for Missiles, Drones

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Thursday that the European Union will disburse €3.3 billion to Ukraine on Friday to finance the acquisition of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

In a post on X, von der Leyen stated: “I just spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Tomorrow we will disburse €3.3 billion to Ukraine to finance the purchase of missiles and drones.”

The European Commission approved funding last week for the purchase of Patriot air defense systems under the Ukraine Support Loan facility.

First Public Disclosure of COrAL Multiple Launch Rocket System

Ukraine has publicly disclosed, for the first time, its deployment of the COrAL multiple launch rocket system to strengthen air defense capabilities.

At the time of the Patriot funding decision, the Commission announced an allocation of €6.1 billion to procure air and missile defense systems, ammunition, drones, and electronic warfare equipment for Ukraine.

New Joint Defense Projects Under SAFE Program

Von der Leyen also indicated plans to redirect remaining funds from the European SAFE program toward launching a new initiative for joint defense projects between the European Union and Ukraine.

She added that the EU has mobilized approximately €15 billion in assistance to Ukraine since the start of this year and intends to continue providing financial support.
