For the First Time, Iran Announces 14 Military Operations in Iraqi Kurdistan

On Monday, Iran's Supreme Commander's Advisor stated that the airborne special forces regiment "23rd Brigade" of the Iranian Army conducted 14 ground operations in the Iraqi Kurdistan provinces of Sulaymaniyah and Erbil.

Advisor Brigadier General Mojtaba Jafarī said the operations resulted in the killing of elements from what he described as "anti-revolutionary forces," along with the capture of others, adding that units of the 23rd Brigade returned from their missions "without suffering any losses."

The Iranian military official did not provide further details about the timing of these operations or the targeted groups, and no comment has been issued yet by Iraqi Kurdistan's authorities regarding these statements.

This announcement comes amid ongoing security tensions along Iran's border with Iraqi Kurdistan, where Tehran accuses Iranian Kurdish opposition groups of using Iraqi territory to carry out armed activities against it, while the Kurdistan Regional Government reaffirms its commitment to preventing the use of its land to threaten neighboring countries.

On Sunday evening, the Iranian military announced that one of its military sites in the city of Mahabad, in the western province of Kurdistan, was attacked by armed Kurdish opposition elements using two suicide drones and rocket fire.

The military stated in a statement that "the attack occurred at 3 a.m. and targeted one of its bases located on the border strip," noting that the attackers used two suicide drones, along with launching RPG rockets.

The statement added that "the attack resulted in the death of one soldier, named Abu al-Fadl Kodrzi, while another soldier was injured and transferred to a medical center for treatment."

The Iranian military accused the Kurdistan Freedom Life Party (Peyxak) of orchestrating the operation, describing the attack as "an act of terrorism" targeting one of its border military installations.
