Western Iran in Escalation Circle: Kurdish Moves Raise Tehran's Fears of Ground Front
Opposition sources report that Kurdish reconnaissance cells in western Iran are mapping military sites, raising fears of a US-backed ground front.

Iranian opposition sources familiar with border security developments confirmed that reconnaissance cells belonging to Kurdish groups, which are operating intensively in cities and regions of western Iran—some coordinating with the United States and Israel—are working to map precise coordinates of key camps, particularly air defense camps and Iranian missile launch platforms in the west of the country, which were surrounded by jamming systems preventing their detection by Washington and Tel Aviv.
The opposition sources told "Erem News" that these reconnaissance cells inflicted human casualties on Revolutionary Guard camps in West Azerbaijan, Marivan, and Baneh, following clashes not publicly announced in recent days. Estimates suggest that Washington and Israel may rely on targeting some of these sites in the military campaign being prepared by US President Donald Trump against Iran.
According to the opposition sources, the movements of these reconnaissance cells indicate they have reached an advanced level, suggesting the possibility that the United States could open a ground front by mobilizing armed Kurdish factions from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with air cover in the upcoming war, in cooperation with Kurdish opposition inside Iran.
This comes as the Iranian Revolutionary Guard recently announced the dismantling of a two-person cell linked to foreign intelligence agencies in the western part of the country. The Basij forces affiliated with the "Ansar al-Rasool" Brigade in Javanrud, Kermanshah province, reported that the operation resulted in the seizure of 10 Starlink satellite internet devices, 10 Kalashnikov rifles, and 5,000 rounds of ammunition.
Deployment of Heavy Weapons
An Iranian opposition source stated that the Revolutionary Guard, having suffered losses at the hands of armed Kurdish groups whose primary goal is to intensify reconnaissance operations on military equipment and sites in western Iran, requested reinforcements including additional units and the deployment of artillery and heavy weapons to prepare strikes against these groups moving along the Iran-Iraq border line.
The source explained to "Erem News" that the armed Kurdish reconnaissance cells, active in western regions, are conducting extensive monitoring of defensive military capabilities, including the distribution of missile systems and Iran's air defense network with greater precision. This coincides with escalating operations against the Revolutionary Guard, leading its command to maintain secrecy about the incidents.
The Revolutionary Guard is pressuring the Kurdish side within Iraq to obstruct any expected role in anticipated US military operations, by directing drone strikes toward Erbil via Palisan and targeting Kurdish groups in northern Iraq.
