Haakon VIII took the constitutional oath before Norway’s parliament, succeeding his father Harald V, who died Friday at age 89, according to AFP.
Haakon VIII has sworn the constitutional oath before the Storting, Norway’s national parliament, formally assuming the monarchy following the death of his father, King Harald V.
Harald V passed away on Friday at the age of 89, as reported by Agence France-Presse.
During the swearing-in, Haakon VIII declared: “I swear to govern the Kingdom of Norway in accordance with its Constitution and laws, and I ask Almighty and All-Knowing God to assist me therein.”
