An Iraqi militia calling itself the 'Islamic Resistance in Iraq' announced on Thursday a $10 million bounty for the killing of US President Donald Trump.

This came against the backdrop of Trump's recent statements in which he boasted about the assassination of Iranian Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani and former deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Forces Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, during his reception of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi at the White House.

The Iraqi militia said in a statement that the amount 'was collected from donations from its members and supporters,' and will be allocated 'to whoever kills Trump, or to whoever decides to direct an individual, group, or entity to carry out retribution against him,' considering Trump's recent statements as 'bragging' about the assassination of Soleimani and al-Muhandis.

This escalation coincided with al-Zaidi's visit to the capital Washington and his meeting with Trump at the White House, where Trump touched on the assassination of Soleimani and al-Muhandis, which was carried out in early 2020 near Baghdad International Airport.

These developments come at a time when Iraqi-American relations are witnessing a new phase of reshaping security and military cooperation, following the talks al-Zaidi held in Washington with senior US officials, which focused on developing the strategic partnership, enhancing the capabilities of Iraqi forces, and strengthening cooperation in the fields of security, investment, and energy.
